When a person goes to a Shaman with an imbalance or sickness, one of the first things the Shaman will as is, “When was the last time you danced?” Followed by, When was the last time you sang?” and “When was the last time you listened to your dreams?”
Medicine Woman Dance has been visioned with the purpose of providing a place to come dance, sing and experience waking dreams in order to manifest our deepest desires in our physical world. Our dances are remembered movements that have been reawakened for the greater good of all whom partake in the energetic benefits of ancient dance!
It is known in the spiritual dance community that when one dances for one's self, to heal their wounds, and create new energy patterns for themselves, they also dance for the world. What we fix in ourselves, we fix in the world. Our dances are to help individuals as well as all of creation to dance in a joyous new existence.
We have separate dances for males and females, as well as mixed dances. All dances require minimal movement but can be expanded upon for more advanced dancers, and require no experience. The purpose for each type of dance is different, but all of them help move blocked energies in the body, release tension, stress, anger, fear and negative feelings and transition to a dance of abundance, comfort, inspiration, love and joy.
Dances lead by Keli Semelsberger are intuitively led and each move will be instructed as experienced by her, for the unique participants in each class. No two classes will be the same and each one will leave participants feeling refreshed and aware that they have participated in something sacred and healing.
The dances are designed to be an hour to two hours long. A portion of the dance is usually instructed, and a portion will be free-flowing so that each participant can have their own journey with the music. We may have recorded music, mixed with live drumming. Participants are welcome to bring their own drums, rattles and sacred instruments. All dancers are asked to wear sarong over clothes, and some will be on hand if dancers do not have one. If you have none of these things, no worries, come one and all!
